2022 Scientific Consensus Statement
Land-based impacts on Great Barrier Reef water quality and ecosystem condition
The 2022 Scientific Consensus Statement for the Great Barrier Reef brings together the latest peer-reviewed scientific evidence on how land-based activities influence water quality and ecosystem condition, and how these influences can be managed.
The human dimensions of water quality improvement synthesis extracted and analysed 106 research papers to understand the human dimension related factors (i.e., trust, economic, social, and cultural factors) that hinder or enable the uptake of management practices for water quality outcomes in the Great Barrier Reef catchments. To read the full analysis here.
The below tool organises the extracted papers across the six human dimension themes (Trust, Cognitive, Emotion/Affect, Economic, Social, and Other), with each dimension divided into enablers and barriers to practice change. The table lists any relevant findings from the included papers across each human dimension theme.
Use the filters to explore the enablers and barriers examined in papers by industry focus (including sugarcane, grazing, banana, and cross-industry studies) and regional focus (Wet Tropics, Burdekin, Fitzroy, and multi-regional studies). Hover over the source information to read the paper abstract.
